The other day my husband came home and told me he had to go out of town on Valentine’s Day. To say I was bummed might be an understatement. Not only is it the day of love, but it is also the anniversary of the day we got engaged, the day I decided to make the biggest decision of my life! And the best of course.
So while I was sitting there feeling sorry for myself that other couples would be doing super romantic things and I would be spending the night in frumpy pajamas eating ice cream out of the carton, I realized that instead of just celebrating one day, we had a whole week to celebrate!
Marriage Week USA is February 7th to 14th. Did you know that? How lucky is that to have a full 7 days to celebrate love and all the good things that come with it.
I have already decided my short list of things to do, have you?
If not, let me help you out.
The first thing you can do, and probably the most important, is to decide now to make your marriage or future marriage your number one priority. Sit down with your spouse and set “Marriage Resolutions” to work on your relationship. If you are still looking for that special someone, make some personal goals that you will do what it takes to make your marriage work. It can be small things, it can be big things. But choosing to make an improvement is the first step. From there, everything is just icing on the cake!
So after you tell your significant other how much you love them and decide to improve your relationship, you can plan future date night ideas together and make it a goal of going out at least once a week. Making it a habit now to go on frequent date nights will only make your relationship better in the long run.
You can also take your loved one out for lunch and tell them how much you appreciate them for what they do to make you happy. Buy them flowers and don’t skimp on dessert!
Another way to celebrate is by talking to couples that you admire. Tell them how their relationship has been a positive influence to you and ask them for advice on ways to keep your relationship healthy and strong.
