Massage, Please?

March 2nd, 2011

At the end of the day what I want most from my husband is a nice, long massage. Of course they are never as long as I really want them to be because he falls asleep… but even 5 minutes is pure bliss for me. And now after reading a recent article by BYU researchers, I have even more reason to ask for a massage: it’s better for my health!

Brigham Young University researchers published this article saying massages can lower blood pressure and tension. They found that out of 34 couples tested, the couples who received massages 3 times a week for 30 minutes showed declines in stress levels after just 4 weeks. The study also found that this is especially true among men. (Looks like I need to do a little reciprocating!)

I think every couple feels like they are always busy. Whether it be engaged couples starting to prepare for the life ahead of them or newlyweds who are just trying to make ends meet or even older couples who are already well established. I know for me and my husband, life seems incredibly hectic trying to balance school, work, a demanding 10-month-old baby, and finding time for just us. There never seems to be a break!

So for me, it’s nice to know that there is a way not only to bring me and my husband closer together with some much needed quality time, but also to relieve the pressure built up from a day of hard work. And I know that the less stress I feel, the happier I am as a student, wife, and mother.

So set aside some precious time on a regular basis and give your loved one a massage! Not only will you be able to spend that relaxing time together, but you will also be helping them lead a healthier life.
