Politely Close Door on Personal Conversations

This is where many people find themselves in deep water. One client is getting marital advice from an old lover on Facebook. His suggestions seem legitimate and wise…but they are coming from the wrong direction. While this relationship seems supportive of the marriage…it is not. Thus, lines and boundaries have now been crossed in the ultimate way.computer

Learn to bow out gracefully from personal conversations. For instance, “This sounds serious. I don’t know what to say. If I were you, I’d talk to someone who really knows me well, or perhaps to a clergy or counselor to air out my thoughts and feelings.” Do not become the shoulder to lean on.
